3rd team report vs Didsbury

On a slightly different Sunday morning the Heaton Mersey third team arrived at Neston for the T20 finals day.

They had left the wet weather of Mersey and arrived at the scenic ground of Neston to blue skies.

In true fashion captian Pete again lost the toss and Mersey were asked to bowl first by Didsbury.

The first over was varied with captain Pete struggling to control the swinging pink ball, but managed to pick up a wicket bowling the Didsbury opener. Joe Glare also took the new ball and was bowling well giving the Didsbury batsmen nothing. Ismael came on after the 1 over (experiment from the captain) unfortunately he then took the brunt of some Didsbury aggression. Mark Lever was then on to bowl and had a few "nearly moments" with the batsmen using some of their luck. Taylor Entwistle then came onto bowl as Mersey looked to change the game as Didsbury had a very good power play.

He bowled with great discipline and was rewarded with 2 wickets, one was stumped by Tom Russell the other bowling the batmen.

Ross Bailey then was next to bowl and took the opportunity with both hands. He bowled one of the batsmen then had another excellently caught at point by Joe Glare.

Joe Glare then was still in the action who ran out the excellent Didsbury batsmen for 70.

Ismael Khan came back on and demonstrated the excellent death bowling he has been working on, he took one wicket caught by Taylor and another bowled.

Mersey bowling statics:

P Lewis 1-0-15-1
J Glare 4-0-19-2
I Khan 4-0-38-2
M Lever 3-0-49-0
T Enwistle 4-0-25-1
R Bailey 4-0-25-2

Then after a quick drink Mersey went out to bat, unfortunately the batting never really got going as Mersey struggled against the disciplined and accurate Didsbury bowling.

Top score was Alishan Khan with 22, Mersey finished 89-9 after 20 overs.

Although we lost the game we learnt a lot and are ready to go again next year.

Still 3 league games to go to finish as high up the table as we can.

Man of the match goes to Joe Glare for his excellent bowling and fielding display.

Team on the day was:

Back row; Usman Tarar, Ross Bailey, Taylor Entwistle, Marl Lever, Pete Lewis, Tom Russell, Shabaz Shafiq

Front row: Joe Glare, Alishan Khan, Ishmael Khan, Junaid Shah
