Bob had not been well for sometime and had spent the last couple of months in hospital, where he passed away on Monday.
He will be remembered for his commitment and devotion to the Club and held the post of Chairman for 11 years during the 1980s and 90s, on either side of his 2 years as President from 1987-89. He also served as Secretary for 3 years from 1976-79 when the present Executive Committee format was first set up. During his term as Chairman, he guided the Club through a lean period both on and off the pitch and as a result of his sound leadership, the Club emerged from this both stronger in playing terms and financially.
Bob joined the Club from Old Aldwinians in season 1965/66 as a hooker and played for the 1st XV for the following 2 years - together with Alan Carruthers, who joined with him from Aldwinians at the same time, they were part of a formidable front row.
Our condolences and thoughts are with Ruth and the rest of his family at this time.
His funeral will be next Monday, 30/1/12, at 12:15 p.m. at the Rowan Chapel, Stockport Crematorium. Ruth has requested that instead of flowers, donations should be made to Ward F14, Wythenshawe Hospital, c/o George Ball & Son, 39 Derby Range, Heaton Moor, Stockport SK4 4AB – telephone 0161 432 2131 for additional details. Also, club members attending the funeral are invited to wear articles of clothing in the club’s colours.
Our thoughts and sympathy go out to Ruth and the rest of Bob's family at this sad time, Bob was a true club man and will be sadly missed by one and all.

My thoughts and sympathy go to Ruth and the rest of the family at this very sad time
Very sorry to hear of the sad passing of a fellow Moor hooker
Really sorry to hear the news. Bob was a great club man and, from a personal perspective, he supported me wonderfully when I was skipper a couple of times in the '80s. Love to Ruth - thinking of you. John and Carol Ashley
Bob was one of the first "Alikadoos" I met when I came to the Moor, and I was impressed by his total committment to the club and to the way he made me feel so welcome. He served the club unselfishly and always lent his support in any way possible. His passing marks a sad day, and he wil be missed by many true Moor stalwarts. My condolences to Ruth and all Bob's relatives. Pete H.
So sorry to hear this news, Bob was a great servant to the club, always a warm and friendly greeting whenever I met him at the club. Mine, and Tom and Joe's, condolences to Ruth and all his family.
Desperately sad news to hear of Bobs passing. Bob worked tirelessly to keep the club on track during a difficult period in the early 90's. He will be missed.
A sad day for Heaton Moor RUFC but Bob left me and I am sure many others alot of happy memories. My thoughts go out to Ruth and family.
Thank you one and all for your kind comments about Bob.
Thank you everyone for you kind comments about My darling Bob
So sad the passing of Bob. Knew Bob from the 'Hut' days back in the 80's and always a man with a smile on his face and time to chat. Miss seeing him in Gatley. Be good to see you Ruth at the club when the time is right.
Ive just read this and sorry I missed the funeral, I have many fond memories of Bob and Ruth in the old clubhouse. We will miss him - Bob introduced my Dad to Heaton Moor in the 1960's and in turn a lot of players from Moseley Hall filled the ranks of the first team Bob was one of the old characters that really made Heaton Moor what it is today. Love to you and your family Ruth from Phil and Dave Turner
