Heaton Moor U16s 50 v 17 TMV U16s

Our U16 team travelled to Fylde RUFC on Sunday 24th April for their Lancashire Bowl final against our good friends from TMV. It was a great day out for all concerned. Coaches Ruby and Yeomans managed to return from their Saturday jaunt to the Isle of Man in time to make the coach departure time.

This was the first time this age group have appeared at a Lancashire finals day and they were determined to make the most of it. Pre-match preparation went well - thanks are due to our match day physio Kat Burns who really put their lads through their paces.

Both teams started nervously with several handling errors caused by the rain. However it was Moor who settled first, opening a commanding lead with tries from Sam Baggaley and Joel Furmidge. Isaac Ewen was denied a certain try by a very high tackle but the referee made amends by awarding the penalty try. Tom Yeomans added another couple of tries to give Moor a commanding half time lead.

The TMV coaches did an excellent job of rousing their team at half time. Moor conceded 17 unanswered points and things started to look a bit wobbly. Some stern words under the posts seemed to do the trick and Moor proceeded to close out the game with tries from Sam Goodwin, Oliver Reynolds and Tom Yeomans.

It was great to see the lads lift a trophy in their final season of junior rugby. Every player in the squad gave their all in an excellent team performance, both defensively and offensively.

Congratulations to fly-half Oliver Reynolds who lifted the man of the match trophy at the presentation ceremony.

Thanks must also go to TMV who have been excellent opponents in the three games we've played against them this season.
