Another cold Sunday morning and Heaton Moor went into another three handed series on the crest of a wave, with a trip to Glossop and Marple again two weeks running.
Our first game was against Glossop and with only thirteen players available it was all hands to the pump!
In addition, some of our boys had been doing their impression of the England Team on Saturday night with a sleep over at David Casey’s, which went way beyond the team curfew!! And came looking bleary eyed and half asleep as the game kicked off!! It also showed in a sluggish, hard fought first half where Heaton Moor never really got their passing game going, but battled hard in the tackle and the loose to go off at half time 5-5 after falling behind, before Dominic Rafferty smashed through the home defence to continue his run as top try scorer this season! and score the equalising try. Neither side converted.
After the break, there were signs that the boys were warming to their task and started to get on top, moving the ball round quicker at pace and generally upping the tempo and it was following one such move that the ball was moved out to the wing and David Casey used his pace to score in the corner. David converted his own try! After that it was all Heaton Moor and the boys began to run better lines to make territorial gains and before too long Dominic was over for his second try of the game, which Joe Kilbride converted to effectively kill the game at 19-5 with only minutes remaining. Glossop did score a last minute consolation try after a period of pressure, but after missing the conversion, the referee blew for full time.
Final score Heaton Moor 19- 10 Glossop
