The lads faced Wednesfield tonight, keen to extend our good run with another 3 points and maintain our push for promotion.

With a busy schedule in the coming weeks we used the full squad tonight and went into the game without Lewis and Torryn in the squad at all, and a number of regulars were on the bench. Lining up in a different formation the lads started the game quite brightly, with Mozza’s early effort from Jack’s cross going just over.

After 5 minutes Brad’s header was cleared off the line and 4 minutes later, after good work on the left from Alex, Ajay had two chances both of which were very well saved by the Wednesfield keeper. On 14 minutes Amani was through on goal and his shot was well saved at the near post.

We were still continuing to create chances despite not playing with our usual tempo or fluidity and on 21 minutes we took a deserved lead when a half clearance found BRAD GRICE on the edge of the box and he curled a great right foot shot into the top corner. 1-0 to Hednesford

Brad went close again with a header after an excellent cross from Alex but mostly during this period our play was too slow and quality in the final third was not up to the usual standard. Added to this Wednesfield were defending very well and also had a couple of decent attempts on our goal.

Just before half-time we went 2-0 up when a lovely ball from JJ found BRAD GRICE through the middle and he reached the ball before Wednesfield’s keeper and rounded him before slotting the ball home into an empty net.

Half-time : Hednesford Town 2 Wednesfield 0

We changed formation at half-time in an attempt to raise the tempo and keep possession better and 2 minutes into the second half an excellent cross from JJ found BRAD GRICE at the far post and he headed home to complete an excellent hat-trick

We began to play more like we know we can, and we moved further ahead when JJ hit a 25 yard screamer into the right hand corner to make it 4-0 to the lads. Another good run from Alex down the left resulted in an excellent cross which found Brad in the middle. Unfortunately Brad narrowly fired over from close range.

With 15 minutes to go Alex was again involved with another mazy run down the left, beating 2 players before squaring the ball back for JAMIE EVANS who fired a shot into the right hand corner of the net. 5-0 to Hednesford

DAN then got into act firing home after a great move between Leadun and JJ, to make it 6-0 and with 8 minutes to go the lads completed the scoring when yet another excellent run from Alex down the left led to him pulling the ball back for JAMIE EVANS to fire home from 10 yards or so. 7-0 to Hednesford

Although the performance stuttered a bit in the first half the second half was a distinct improvement and special congratulations should go to BRAD GRICE for an excellent hat-trick and to JAMIE EVANS who just edged the Man of the Match Award. Other players performed well in periods of the game but, most importantly we gained the 3 points that we needed to continue our push for promotion

The lads move on to our games next week when we have a busy schedule with games at home to Wolverhampton Casuals at Keys Park on Monday evening and then away to promotion rivals, Lichfield City on Wednesday
