An Amazing Start

Report for Today's games.

Sunday saw the newly established, Hellingly Hound Dogs travel to Maidstone to take part in their first ever tournament held by Kent Phoenix. The Hound Dogs, whom have only been in training for the last three months, took a team on eight players along to take on three other teams from the Phoenix, Kent Exiles and East Kent Mavericks.

Things could not have started better as the Hound Dogs ran out winners in their first ever game, 3 TouchDowns to 2 over the Mavericks, thanks to QB Charlie Boorer finding Roman Cameroon-Dick in the corner with a perfectly placed throw. Then a few minutes later, Boorer linked up with his brother Jacob who took a beautifully weighted throw to out leap the defender. The Mavericks came back into it with two TouchDowns for themselves, before débutante Ted Sandalls ran the full length of the pitch to seal not only the win, but Ted’s first ever score.

Things got a little trickier as the Hound Dogs took on an experienced Kent Exiles team. The Hound Dogs soon found themselves two TouchDowns down as the Exiles showed their experience and talent. As the clock was winding down, Ted Sandalls stepped up again to take the catch from Charlie Boorer to get the Hound Dogs on the board. The Exiles nearly score in the dying seconds had it not been for Danny Townsend fine tackle on the last play of the game with the Exiles at the Hound Dogs 2 yard line. The score finished with the Exiles running out winners by the score of 2TD’s to 1.

In the last of the three games, the Hound Dogs took on the Mavericks. In a game that was very open, with a lot of attacking style play. The Mav’s ran out winners by 4 TD’s to 1. The Hound dogs failed to control the ball very well and gave the game away with two interceptions, one of which was returned for a TD. The Hound Dogs did get on the board, thanks to Riley Davis TD which came via a run play.

The Hound Dogs are still looking for more players to join the team. Training takes place every Wednesday, 6:30 till 7:30 at Horsebridge Recreational ground
