TUOHY THUNDERBOLT RESCUES LEAMINGTON
Hemel Hempstead Town FC 1-1 Leamington FC
(Blake 64) (Tuohy 88)
By: Luke Weston
A superb 88th minute equaliser from Michael Tuohy rescued a point for Leamington against the Tudors at Vauxhall Road.
Both sides started the opening league game of the season lively and ex-Oxford City captain Liam Malone was the first to test out the visitors keeper forcing Tony Breeden into a smart save. Minutes later Leamington really should have taken the lead when Alex Taylor found himself one on one with Hemel keeper Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz however he was denied at his feet superbly.
Half Time: Hemel Town 0-0 Leamington
The game continued to be very much fast flowing after the interval as both teams searched for the opening goal. Hemel’s leading scorer from the last campaign nearly had the lead for his side only for Breeden to superbly tip over his free kick. Half time substitute Ryan Blake then weaved some magic of his own, beating off numerous challenges before racing towards goal and unleashing an effort past Breeden into the net.
Hemel’s drive for a second continued as Danny May had a long range free kick saved well and good link up play from Marquin Smith sending in Marvin Williams was wasted with a poor finish. The equaliser came much against the run of play as a scramble from a corner resulted in substitute Tuohy rifling an unstoppable drive past Jaimez-Ruiz.
