Hemel moved themselves off the foot of the table with a fine display against Hitchin Town at Vauxhall Road, winning the game 2-0.

The home side started well with Lewis Toomey having an early effort just wide of the target. Visiting keeper Martin Bennett was kept busy in the first half as he denied Dave Pearce and Charlie Gorman with decent saves.

Hitchin had chances of their own though as Inih Iffiong’s strike was tipped over by Ross Kitteridge. The chance of the half fell for Canaries midfielder Calum Donnelly as he somehow missed an open goal after Kitteridge had parried Iffiong’s effort.

Half Time: Hemel Town 0-0 Hitchin Town

The pivotal moment in the encounter was soon to follow not long into the second half. Ross Lafayette was pushed by Tom Pepper in the area and a penalty was awarded. Dave Pearce slotted home the ball to give the Hemel a well deserved lead.

As the clocked ticked down, the Tudors looked to hold onto what would be a vital victory in their quest for survival. Hemel substitute Alieu Jallow nearly forced a second goal however Bennett was on hand to block the effort.

With only seconds remaining, all three points were sealed as Lafayette found the net. After the ball was cleared to him down the wing, he managed to find the space to unleash a powerful effort which Bennett couldn’t quite stop as the ball trickled into the net.

Their was still time for more bad news for Hitchin as Louis Lee received a second yellow card for a lunge on Gorman.

Good to see Tommy`s hard work with the team paying off, a passionate manager who seems to kick every ball, I really enjoy watching the game by the dugout listening to him encourage and push the players on......oh and occasionally berrate the officials! ha ha. Keep it up Tommy we love it!!
