with 10 reasons to be cheerful

The 'Youth' are into the Somserset County Cup semi-finals after a convincing result away to Castle Cary.

After no football due to the weather since before Christmas the 'Youth' returned to winning ways in some style.

The weather had taking a serious dip in temperature and with the pitches still very wet the game somehow managed to get played on quite a poor pitch away to Castle Cary.

Hard continuous training sessions for weeks now instead of games reaped the rewards for a squad who looked very fit and full of energy as they warmed-up for the game.

The weather had meant a venue change and having to get the boys changed in a community hall close by so not idea but none-the-less we still followed the pre-match routine.

Pre-match instructions, 3 second rule in place and most recent sessions on looking for triggers to press paid off, within 8 minutes of the start the boys raced into a 4 nil lead, but it didn't stop there the pressure applied all over the pitch was immense and reduced Castle Cary to nothing more than mistake after mistake and filled the 'Youth' with even more confidence.

Even with the pitch being in very poor condition and the grass up over their ankles somehow they still managed to play some excellent football against a physical side who couldn't get near us. The ball was moved quickly before battles happened and at times it seemed we had extra players on the pitch.

Another two goals were scored before the break to put the boys in a commanding position.

Half-time came and went, due to the cold and no changing rooms to retreat into, second challenge, remain disciplined, nothing silly now and play out the second halve, ensure we keep our shape all over the pitch - allow Castle Cary to play in their defensive third but press across the middle third - well the second half turned into a repeat of the first with us camped in their halve at times with a further 4 goals.

An excellent performance in dire conditions and a return of 10 goals with no reply.

We look forward now to the semi-final draw later this week.

Well done boys, you have remained fit and raring to go since before Christmas - we return to the league next week when we welcome Patchway to the 'Grove'.

Well done boys . . .
