A Brief Profile of Henley RFC

Henley Rugby Club was founded in 1930 as Old Henleiensians.

Over the years the club has built a reputation of providing a first class venue for everyone in the town and beyond to enjoy their rugby. From mini members and their parents to our Friday Club who help with the upkeep and maintenance; from our successful women’s team to our highly professional Hawks outfit in the national leagues, we are a club that is built on clear foundations of contribution to the local community and a place where everyone is welcome and enjoys a good time.

The club has progressed rapidly alongside the development of the game as it moved to a national league structure and into the new professional era. Henley RFC has now firmly established itself with a reputation as one of the foremost semi-professional clubs in the land.

By the year 2000 Henley had achieved no less than four promotions culminating in a top six position in National League One and a top 25 position in English rugby.

Along the way Henley took the scalp of premiership side Bedford in the latter stages of the
National Knockout Cup, one of only a handful of non premiership clubs to perform this giant killing feat. They then went on to earn the respect of the famously knowledgeable shed in narrowly losing to Gloucester at Kingsholm in the next round. Right now Henley occupy a respectable top 40 spot in English league rugby, recently promoted to National 1 with every intention of staying there for the immediate future.

Henley’s beautifully appointed Dry Leas ground boasts one of the finest playing surfaces in the country, recognised as such by the many representative matches that are played there, such as the recent U21 World Cup. The ground is also currently home to both Wasps A league side and the Wasps Academy. The ground is barely a stone’s throw from the river and reflects everything one might expect from the world famous regatta town of Henley–On–Thames.

The club maintain a fully inclusive playing structure covering the broad spectrum of a contemporary rugby club. All Henley’s teams from the Hawks to our amateur sides, through to the Women, Juniors and Minis command respect wherever they play, and enjoy the full support of many individuals and business in the town and the wider Thames Valley area.

Henley RFC is clearly one of the premier rugby clubs in the Thames Valley. We have an organisation and a reputation of which we are proud and we are confident that any level of commercial association with our club would engender pride, respect and admiration from both current and prospective clients.

Please come and join us at Dry Leas and embrace the sporting spirit of Henley!
