Hermes were looking to build on their win last week, whilst Colony were keen to claim the points in their efforts to climb out of the relegation zone, so a well contested encounter was in prospect.

The visitors started brightly, keeping possession while probing for openings. The first chance fell to McKechnie but his effort, at the far post flew, harmlessly over the bar.
The home side struck back and Young just failed to convert a cross at the near post.

Hermes benefitted from two mistakes within a minute by Colony park defenders.
In 16 minutes, Gray in the home goal, allowed a harmless cross to slip through his grasp and, as the ball fell into the goalmouth behind him, the quick-thinking PHILIP CRUICKSHANK, pounced on the loose ball, rolling it into the empty net.

Colony restarted the game but immediately lost possession and Hermes forced a corner. From the driven cross, right back PAUL DOUGLAS, inexplicably headed the ball high into the top corner of his own net.

The game had swung completely in Hermes favour and the visitors capitalised on their good fortune by retaining possession and pinning the home side back in their own half.

Hermes put together several intricate passing moves and , in 33 minutes one of these paid off when CRUICKSHANK finished off a flowing move, by latching on to an inch perfect Dawson pass and he stroked the ball home from 12 yards, past the helpless Gray.

Half-time: Colony Park 0-3 Hermes

The home side showed increased resolve on the resumption and the probed for openings but found it difficult to carve out any clear cut chances
.
In 51 minutes Cruickshank limped off to be replaced by Stevenson.

Hermes continued to build attacks and came close to increasing their goal tally on several occasions.

With 15 minutes remaining, Niven came on for the hard working Courage but the pattern of play remained the same with Hermes looking untroubled as Park strove to break down the stuffy visitors’ defence.

Hermes sent on their final sub with three minutes later, with Nash making way for Strachan.
Barely had the sub stepped onto the pitch, when Hermes clinched the game with the goal their second half displayed merited.

When the referee awarded Hermes a free kick five yards outside the penalty box in a central position, LEE SMITH stepped up and fired the ball low into the net , under the feet of the jumping wall, past the diving Gray.

Full-time Colony Park 0-4 Hermes

Man of the Match: Scott Freeland. Although not greatly troubled by the home forwards, Freeland produced a near faultless display in defence and provided a steady supply of quality ball to his side’s industrious midfielders.

Overall, an excellent display by Hermes with no weaknesses and they capitalised on a helping hand from the home side, to run out comfortable winners.

Colony Park face a vital test next week at fellow strugglers Newburgh Thistle and they will have to tighten up at the back and show more attacking thrust if they are to capture a vital three points.
