Hall Russell kicked off this Grill League Cup Section Two tie in bright sunshine but it was Hermes who provided the early sparkle when, in 12 minutes, Alexander fired a low hard cross into the United box and Dawson helped the ball on to SCOULAR who wasted no time in firing strongly into the net past the helpless Simpson.

The visitors continued to make the running and they doubled their lead with ten minutes of the half remaining when McRAE made space at the edge of the box, turning two defenders, before powering home a ferocious shot.

Within ten minutes of the restart Hermes were three ahead when DAWSON sent a looping header from an Alexander cross over the despairing Simpson and into the net.

The home side had managed to carve out a couple of chances but they were unable to convert any of these chances into goals.

Hermes introduced substitutes on either side of the hour mark, Alexander and M.Smith making way for Stevenson and McLachlan.

Russells finally got onto the scoresheet in 71 minutes when Strachan brought down substitute ESSLEMONT who picked himself up and made no mistake from the spot.

Soon afterwards Courage replaced McRae as Hermes introduced their final sub and comfortably ran down the clock clinching a hard fought victory.
