England off to a crushing start.

Peter Guise reports on the 4th European Deaf Futsal Championships being held in Sofia, Bulgaria

First of all, what is Futsal?

Futsal is a version of football not too dissimilar to 5-a-side and is played mainly indoors. The name futsal is derived from Portuguese and roughly translated means ‘hall football’.

The pitch is lined and doesn’t have perimeter boards as seen in many 5-a-side games but it is 5-a-side with unlimited substitutions (roll on-roll off).

So why are we excited about it at Herne Bay Football Club?

That’s easy! Our very own Emma Brown, right back for our highly successful Ladies Team, is playing for England in the 4th European Deaf Futsal Championship in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The tournament is taking place between 19th and 29th November 2014.

England

England Women are in Group A along with Denmark, Turkey and Hungary. England have got off to a great start beating Turkey 16 (sixteen) -0 with Emma Brown bagging 5 goals.

For the record here are the goalscorers for England:

Emma Brown (5),
Danielle Evans (3),
Zara Musker (3),
Laura Wiseman 3,
Gemma Sanders 2,
Damaris Cooke, Caz Wilcock & Rebecca Kemp.

England’s remaining group stage games are:

v Hungary on Saturday 22nd November KO 2 pm
v Denmark on Monday 24th November KO 4 pm

At Herne Bay FC we are very proud of Emma and the England Team and we will bring you updates on their progress.

Next update will be on Saturday evening after the Hungary game.
