Herne Bay's Walking Football team met Margate WFC in their penultimate Kent Walking Football League match of the 2016-17 season, writes Ron Boddy. Herne Bay were missing Trevor Brown, Steve Nolan, Neil Davey and Clive Parker. Malcolm Wright, Bill Dordoy, Gerry Allan and Steve Johnson replaced them.

Margate made the first move scoring a good goal in the 3rd minute. Five minutes later they had the ball in the Herne Bay net again but the goal was disallowed as the Margate player had encroached into the goal area. The match was end to end, but in the 11th minute Herne Bay levelled the score with a snap goal from David Gilham. Within two minutes a quick break allowed David Gilham to put Herne Bay into the lead with a good shot. Shortly after David Gilham's shot rebounded from the end board to Gerry Allan who slotted it past the Margate goalkeeper. Halftime came with no further scoring.

Early in the second half Malcolm Wright suffered a calf injury and he was replaced by Bill Dordoy. Within seconds Bill slotted the ball through to David Gilham who completed his hat trick. The match was still end to end, however it was Herne Bay who were showing the better finishing. In the 33rd minute David Gilham scored again. Steve Johnson replaced Gerry Allan and soon had a chance to score but his shot went wide. Herne Bay's 6th goal came from Neil Brown. Steve Johnson had to leave the field suffering from a dislocated finger which meant a trip to hospital. Herne Bay's final goal came in the last minute when David Gilham netted his fifth of the evening.

Herne Bay squad: Nick Denly, Malcolm Wright, Harry Roberts, Neil Brown, Gerry Allan, David Gilham, Bill Dordoy, Steve Johnson.
