Peter Guise previews the week ahead for Herne Bay Football Club. Matches scheduled for week commencing Saturday 15th November 2014.

First XI

It’s FA Trophy 2nd Qualifying Round time, so that means as we are not involved but our planned league opponents Whyteleafe are, sowe have a rescheduled league match to look forward to on Saturday. Obligingly, Sittingbourne have agreed to bring the match forward from January – planning for a bad winter already, see – so we will have a game after all and points are up for grabs. Sittingbourne are four places and four points above the Bay.

KO at Winch’s Field: Herne Bay v Sittingbourne is 3 pm

U21s

The U21s are in Kent Intermediate Cup action this Saturday with a trip to Crockenhill Reserves in the second round. Crockenhill once, famously, are reputed to have received a set of track suits as payment for the transfer of Tony Cascarino to Gillingham. Seems cheap considering he went on to an international career.

KO at Eynsford Road: Crockenhill Reserves v Herne Bay u21s is 1:30 pm

U18s

The U18s are again in cup action this Sunday when they play Folkestone Invicta in the 2nd Round of the Kit to Fit Cup at Cheriton Road. The match was due to be played last Sunday but the weather intervened.

This is Ben Smith’s Under 18’s 28th cup match and 70th in League and Cup since the team played under the Herne Bay banner as Under 16’s in 2012-13. A win would be their 50th in those 70 games in all competitions. Four goals are required to notch up 250 in two and a bit seasons. Elliot Cutts, George Mitchell and Dom Snee are all within 10 goals of overtaking Elias Settouf as the all-time Herne Bay leading goalscorer for this squad.

KO at Cheriton Road: Folkestone Invicta U18s v Herne Bay u18s is 11:00 am

Ladies

Fresh from securing a victory in their first match in defence of the League Cup they won last season, the Ladies turn their attention to the Kent Women’s Cup this Sunday. It’s the first season in this tournament having won the Kent Women’s Plate two years in succession. Their opponents, Dartford Royals, could easily be Bay’s biggest rivals in a number of competitions this term.

KO at Winch’s Field: Herne Bay Ladies v Dartford Royals is 2 pm

With the weather changing to be more traditional any last minute changes to these scheduled matches will be posted via Social Media (see below) – there will not always be a separate article on the website.
