Peter Guise previews the week ahead for Herne Bay Football Club.
Matches scheduled for week commencing Saturday 28th March 2015.
First XI
From here on in every one of the Bay’s remaining six Ryman One (South) league matches is a cup final if a play off place is to be achieved. “We can only do our bit and win them”, says Bay manager Sam Denly.
The first of those cup finals is at home against relegation haunted Redhill this Saturday. The Lobsters won the reverse fixture at Kiln Brow so there is a score to settle in this one as well.
Football Web Pages predict Bay will finish 6th just one point behind Whyteleafe. That includes a predicted draw against the Leafe in the final game of the season. A win there would make things interesting then.
Here’s the important run-in schedule for the main contenders

U21s
The U21s are already the winners of the East Division of the NRG Gyms U21 Development League and their opponents on Saturday in the last regular game of the season are Tankerton who were confirmed as runners up when Bay thrashed Dover Rangers on Tuesday night.
The West Division winners and runners up are yet to be decided but Greenwich Borough will be one of those going into the Championship play offs and, most likely Cray Wanderers the other, but it should be clearer come the end of Saturday. Bay will play the runners up from the West in a two legged semi-final (2nd leg at home) – dates to be decided.
KO at The Canterbury Academy: Tanketon U21s v Herne Bay u21s, Saturday 28th March 2015, is 2:00 PM
U18s
The U18s have only the league to concentrate on now following their exit from the many cups they have competed in at either the quarter-final or semi-final stage. So, it’s league action this Sunday with Corinthian the visitors and a chance to avenge defeat in the reverse fixture earlier this month.
KO at Winch’s Field: Herne Bay u18s v Corinthian u18s, Sunday 29th March 2015, is 11:00 AM
Then on Tuesday night, Folkestone Invicta visit Winch’s Field in a rearranged Kent Youth League Premier Division fixture.
KO at Winch’s Field: Herne Bay u18s v Corinthian u18s, Tuesday 31st March 2015, is 7:45 PM
Ladies
The Ladies have four games left in the SECWFL Premier Division, are currently fourth in the league, and still have the winning of the title in their own hands. Like the Men’s First XI they can only focus on their own performances and winning is the target. In fact, as it currently stands, a draw against Dartford on Easter Sunday in the showdown encounter, would be enough provided the other three games are won. The pressure is building and the Ladies will need to travel well in this week’s road trip to face the Sparks.
Here’s the run in schedule of the contenders, although realistically it is between Herne Bay and Dartford Royals.
The Run-In SECWFL Premier Division
Dartford Royals | Herne Bay | Meridian | Long Lane |
