U16 As Kick Off Season With a Win
Bonus point in the bag
Autumn has come early and we avoid the rain just as the A's got their season and their league campaign off to a winning start away at Ampthill who had been promoted by winning league two unbeaten last season, so were never going to be a push over and that proved to be the case.
Hertford started the game very brightly and notched an early try through a powerful break of the line from Riria Kvindyo in what would become a theme for the day. Everytime we landed a try, back came Ampthill. At times it felt like a boxing match where both fighters were taking turns landing blows on one another. Hertford went into the break however 17 - 10 to the good.
After the break it was the same with trys being traded one after another. It was a brilliant match for the spectator and it pretty much had everything. at 31 - 31 with 8 minutes to play Hertford could of extended their lead through Joe Coleman, Jack Standing or Conor Maher who all had chances to go over the line only to come up short or have the ball held up. Finally though a swivel and a jinx of the hips appeared Louis Suarez who had been supporting Riria Kvindyo earlier in the match by kicking numerous conversion found the gap to seal the win. The pack then kept possession to see the game through, frustrating Ampthill and get the bonus point win. A far cry from where we have started the past two seasons.
Man of the Match went to Connor Brett who took many a big hit to stop the opposition wingers from stealing through.
Well done to all the boys on such positive game play which on another day could well of been a bigger win.
Next week we welcome Letchworth to Hoe Lane.
