Tough pool match for Hertford B/Stevenage
Disappointing score line in what could have been a closer game
On a cold windy winter Remembrance Sunday Hertford & Stevenage faced Tring B's. Like the weekend before Hertford were slow out of the blocks - against a well drilled Tring side who in defence flirted with the offside law. This put our half backs under considerable pressure and we saw some uncharacteristic mistakes with two tries coming directly from interceptions.
It was pleasing to see some of the defensive pod work pay off and the game in the first half was a very tight affair. We also saw on occasion some great backs play - fast hands transitioning the ball out to the wing with enough speed to nullify the pressure Tring defence.
The second half should have been easier as we had the wind but the Tring subs seemed to bring renewed vigour. We lost a bit of heart and by the last 10 were down to 14 players. Disappointing as it could have been much closer but the teams were well matched it was played in a good spirit - support, kicking and contesting the ball are the work ons for the next couple of weeks.
