The first 10 mins were even, but Hunslet scored the first try in 13 mins. Heworth came back within a couple of mins when Cameron Simpson
powered over for a well-deserved try. Heworth then took another try in 19 mins when, after a very good run and a great offload from Lewis Hartley
, allowed Billy Sturdy
to score close to the posts which was converted by the ever reliable Jonny Rawsthorne
for a lead of 12 – 6. With the half coming to a close, Hunslet scored an unconverted try to see the half time score Hunslet 10 v 12 Heworth.
With the wind and rain at their backs Hunslet started to get the upper hand against Heworth and scored 2 converted tries to lead 22 – 12. But an outstanding last 10 mins from Heworth led to a great run from Luke Thomson scoring in the corner to get back 4 points 22 – 16. In the 23rd min on the 6thtackle Jonny Rawsthorne
executed an excellent kick into the corner to allow Tom Mannix to score a brilliant try to make the score 22 – 20. Heworth were now going for the win and Hunslet were finding it difficult to get into the Heworth half but after a Hunslet 5th tackle kick Heworth knocked on which allowed Hunslet possession within 20m, of which they took advantage and scored to make the score 26 – 20. With 2 mins to play Hunslet thought they had done enough to win the game, but from the kick off Heworth put great pressure on the Hunslet defence forcing an error and then a penalty. With full time upon us Cameron Simpson
took control of the Touch and Go and powered in close to the posts which Jonny Rawsthorne
converted for a Magnificent 26 – 26 draw.
To a man Heworth were magnificent - a tremendous defensive display by all and some very clever forward play allowed them a very well deserved draw.
Well Done to All
