Two goals in the dying embers of the game saw Cheshunt run out victors as the Swifts home campaign draws to a close for another season.
Heybridge started well in their final home game of the season despite falling victim to an 18th minute goal by the visitors when Ryan Wade rifled a right footed shot into the left corner from the right side of the penalty area. A first half highlight for Swifts was Solomon Ofori who was in blistering form, shooting towards the nearpost early on, forcing keeper Glenn Williamson into a save, Ofori later claimed for a handball against defender Matt Thomson in the area but to no avail. Solomon Ofori spent much of the first half causing the Cheshunt right back Thomson some hurrendous problems.
Just after the half hour Ofori ran rings round Thomson before crossing for Tom Broadhurst who came close to hooking the ball in from behind him. Within a minute a James Stevens free kick headed across the area by Chris Ribchester was again almost hooked in by Broadhurst for Swifts. Two further shots for the visitors in the same half saw Ryan Wade shoot wide and an 18 yard shot narrowly wide by Josh Hutchinson.
Early in the second half Tom Broadhurst was put into a goal scoring position and was able to slip the ball past keeper Williamson, only for defender Thomson to tidy up from deep in the goalmouth. Heybridge then made an attacking change bringing on Tom Holdstock for Connor Cranmer as the hosts searched for a way back.
Two chances for Cheshunt just before Heybridge levelled. Ryan Wade blasted over on 55 minutes followed by a decent right footed shot a minute late latching onto a Hutchinson cross, Ashley Harrison saved with his left boot in an instinctive save.
A moment of bad luck and good luck in a matter of seconds followed on 58 minutes when keeper Ashley Harrison cleared low with the ball rebounding off Chris Moore and falling into the path of Wade who saw Harrison stranded from his goal but could only lob over.
That was the moment for Heybridge to step up a gear and they indeed found a way back on the hour when a through ball released Tom Broadhurst who blasted a shot across the outstretched hand of keeper Williamson from the edge of the area.
Whilst Ofori was the highlight of the first half it was clear Broadhurst was shining in the second half, Broadhurst lofted a shot over as he ran at the Cheshunt keeper after Stevens lifted a long ball forward from his own half with twenty minutes left.
With the score still level there was again an incident which will bring calls for goal line technology although it would clearly take sometime to reach Non League level whilst everyone awaits for it to arrive at the top of the game. Solomon Ofori tore Thomson apart again, cut into the box from the left, Ofori shot into the heart of the goalmouth with Anthony Sanderson making a desperate goal line clearance yet with the net shaking and fans going wild behind the goal it was a very close call as to where the ball was in relation to the line.
Late goals were the undoing of Swifts for a second successive week as Cheshunt first regained the lead on 88 minutes with a headed goal by Sub Anthony McDonald from a corner and a stoppage time goal to make it 3-1 as McDonald broke the offside trap as Cheshunt broke down a Heybridge attack and cleared quickly. Anthony McDonald broke clear on the keeper and unselfishly squared the ball to Sam Bantick to compose himself and steer the ball past Ashley Harrison.
