It has been a relatively quiet pre-season for The Bears, as a club the focus has been and still is the plans for the redevelopment of the Sports and Social Club and build summer 2018 there has been some fantastic work done on this by many with special mention to James Gregory, Cheryl Pike and Sam Suter. On the pitch the reserves have also entered the OSL (which should allow both teams to move forward no longer under the Senior/Junior status player constraints that made things so difficult last season) and seeing them establish themselves in Div 2 is hugely important for the club and also for the 1st team to keep moving forward. The 1st team will hope to keep their status at the top end of the table (in what looks a tough competition this season) whilst going for cup glory.
The 1st team management duo of Owen Suter and Chris Duncan have remained for a 5th season and James Gregory has joined them, his considerable playing experience higher up the football pyramid should hopefully mean he will be a fantastic addition whilst continuing to play also. The reserves again be led by Jamie Hadley and Phil Hickman and have overhauled their squad somewhat to ensure we will be competitive with numerous new additions.
On the 1st team player front Striker Danny Green is still recovering from surgery that ended his season just gone and will hopefully return during the season. Other than Danny and Midfielder Matty Horle stepping down to lead the reserve side the playing squad from last season has been retained.
New arrivals include the man mountain and big kicking Sam Eeles from Chalgrove who was hugely impressive in our games last year (nutting one of our players and getting away with it sealed the deal!) and joins Tom McNamara (Bicester Village beholden) in an incredibly strong GK department.
Defender Tony Truman has stepped up from the reserves and has hugely impressed throughout pre-season with his speed, strength and tenacity and looks perfect for 1st team football.
Long time target for the Manager the mercurial and creative Ben Dawe joins us from Launton. After a fantastic start to his men's footballing career Ben has had a couple of quiet years however a summer of running has left Ben looking at his sharp and creative best and the Ultras are incredibly excited to see Ben re-establish himself as one of the best young players in the area.
After a couple of seasons on an enforced sabbatical another long time target of our Manager Striker Ben Tapping has also joined. Fast, strong and relentless on the evidence of pre-season all at the club are delighted to see Ben in the Gold although it may take a couple of games for him to shake off the rust!
Ex-Bear and attacker Jordan Weaver also re-signs for the club from Bicester Town although will not be available until the New Year when he returns from his travels.
All the best to all clubs, officials and grass-root supporters this season both in the OSL and beyond, a season at the end of which we will hopefully have a brand spanking new facility to play out of, a bright future and hopefully some silverware (for either team) to celebrate.
