Another Saturday, Another 3 Points
Heyford welcomed the equally ambitious Cropredy to The King George this weekend in the hope of continuing their unbeaten run and put more distance between themselves and the chasers
With the reverse fixture against today's opposition scheduled for next week, Heyford knew that the work they put in today, will be fresh in the mind of the #revolution when the Bears roll in. With this in mind, Heyford put in the best first half performance of the season so far. Quick passing, good decision making and high pressing made Heyford unplayable and they were smashing the door down to try and take the initiative. The Bears finally got their just desserts when after some good possession play, John Dent put in a deep cross for Steve Roberts, yes that's Steve Roberts', who scored his first goal of the season! ⚽️ His celebration had the sidelines in stitches, just like his member last year. A tidy finish from the elder statesmen. Heyford continued to apply pressure, creating chances and low and behold, Steve Roberts doubled the scoreline (and his goal tally) 10 minutes before the half. John Dent (34) pumped a deep cross for James Gregory (34) to spoon a header back into the danger area for Steve Roberts (39) to acrobatically convert via a bicycle kick, 107 years of combined ⚽️experience and class (and luck, Greg's).
Now The Bears were tasked with playing for a full 90 as opposed to 45. They came out and could not quite keep up with the very high standards that they set in the first half but still commanded the game, dominated possession and the opposition: Cropredy looked unlikely to cause the strong back line any problems. So it was surprising when the crucial third goal went the way of the away side. A bizarre mix up which led to Jack Evans scoring for the second week successively, unfortunately for us, it went in the wrong net via his belly (probably by now full of Rosè, love Nottingham). The game limped away with little in the way of football to offer from either side, the final whistle came and went and yet again, Heyford grind out the vital 3 points.
Next week we head to Cropredy for the reverse fixture. Massive thanks to the Ultras, out in force, as ever. This week PYCR was nearly won by Macca (gutted for you mate), but didn't and more importantly, the jackpot rolls over to next time to a whopping £65.
