HCC 2012 Fantasy Cricket - WEEKLY SUMMARY

WEEKLY SUMMARY HCC 2012 Fantasy Cricket - WEEKLY SUMMARY
FANTASY CRICKET WEEK 5 UPDATE

Two teams in action together for the first time this season and therefore many more chances for fantasy points to be earned - many players getting off the mark in fact, some of them negatively!

The 1st XI held on at Irchester to secure a winning draw thanks mainly to the efforts of two batsmen and one bowler. Leggie and Bakes both struck impressive half-centuries in what was probably slightly below par score of 185-8, while there was a duck for Ben Taylor and a golden for Ed in his first appearance of the season! Only three wickets were taken in reply, all by Beano in another fabulous 15-over spell, with eight maidens, while Ed and Rosco bowled well at the death to ensure Irchester fell just short. Beano's efforts ensure he is now the top individual points scorer this year, moving ahead of Balders.

The 2nd XI opened their season disappointingly, falling to a comprehensive defeat to Harlestone. The first half of the game was perfect, all five bowlers contributing to dismiss Harlestone for 112, debutant Jordan taking an excellent 5-15, and Pecky doing his usual damage with two early scalps. There were even four dropped chances as well! The less said about the batting the better though, as wickets fell at regular intervals in a meagre total of 66 all out. Only Pecky and Fergie made it to double figures although amazingly there was not one single duck!

So, still no wins for the club in 2012 but with the sun making a belated appearance that will hopefully change this weekend...

PLAYER OF THE WEEK - JORDAN SMITH

A first appearance for the club, and naturally therefore a first appearance in fantasy cricket for winter signing Jordan Smith, who formed part of fairly young bowling attack for the 2nd XI and took to it straight away, claiming a five-wicket haul on debut and becoming the first player this season to claim a 100+ point haul. 'Junior Peck', as he has been christened, came on second change and showed the virtue of bowling straight, hitting the stumps four times and claiming one lbw to return figures of 5-15 from 6.3 overs. He then was the only man undismissed in the disappointing batting effort, earning himself a further ten points, and it's just a shame his excellent performance ending up on the losing side.

TOTAL: 120 points

MANAGER OF THE WEEK - ALFIE INWOOD

Even if he hasn't quite got to playing stage yet, young Alfie showed he has obviously got some great selection skills already! He was inspired in choosing Jordan, and also had the next two highest scorers of the week in Leggie and Bakes as well as picking up useful points from Rory and David Baker. His was one of only two teams to pass 300 points, but it was comfortably ahead of Ann Hindson's 304. Now we just have to hope he inherits his Dad's safe hands and stickability at the crease as well!

DAD'S SAFE HANDS

Ross Cambray – 8 points

Matt Baker – 89 points

Simon Legge – 87 points

Rory Smallbone – 23 points

David Baker – 33 points

Jordan Smith – 120 points

TOTAL POINTS - 360

LEAGUE TABLES

With both teams in action there were many more points scored this week, and therefore some pretty healthy totals around. Two teams passed 300 points, while a further fourteen passed 200.

The big winners were clearly the Inwood family, who now sit in second (Nick), fourth (Jane) and seventh (Alfie - up 58 places after a huge points haul!), surely the first time the three family members have been so successful together. Clearly some knowledgeable selection discussions went on round the breakfast table in that house!

Whitty manages to hold onto top spot by just one point from Ann Hindson, while another youngster, Benny Cawley moves into the top five for the first time - could this be the year when a younger entry trumps the senior pros?!

Elsewhere there were big moves up the table from Carol Baker, Mark Hobbs, Kyle Browne and Jackie Akrigg but the likes of Tom Akrigg, Andy Baker, James Baldwin and Chris Peck tumbled down the other way. Of last year's big contenders only really Beano in 6th has made a healthy start, with the likes of Livers, Bakes, Rosco, Pecky and Leggie not yet pushing the top ten. Still, plenty more opportunities in the weeks ahead now that the worst of the rain is hopefully behind us!

Ann Hindson is still comfortably in the lead for the ladies, stretching it to 110 points with her third excellent week in a row. Jane holds onto second while Carol Baker had a storming week to jump up from 13th to third, just ahead of daughter-in-law Jade, and Julie Cambray. Naomi Legge had a much better week than last, but still props up the table.
