After losing one of their most influential players last week due to an ankle injury, Hibeernian had a re-shaped setup for this weeks league fixture.
a back 4 of Young, Rickman, Verran and Ritchie with young Grant Burnett just in front playing a holding mid role. Burnett, usually a left mid, showed his versatility in this position by clearing up most of the play that came to him and allowing the Hibs defence a slightly easier time than they've had in recent weeks.
The goal came around the 30 minute mark when Hibeernian defended a corner well, played the ball high up to Milne who then sent Duncan through. Duncan, the lone striker, still had a lot to do though but he skillfully went past 2 defenders and slotted the ball past the helpless goal keeper to make it 1-0. A justifiable reflection on a half that Hibeernian so far had dominated.
Hibeernian continued pressing again in the 2nd half but a freak incident around the hour mark saw the scores leveled. A rash challenge about 30 yards out should have saw Hibeernian rewarded with a free kick but the ref played on. The ball fell into the path Young just on the edge of the box who tried to clear out the park but an inexplainable swerve saw the ball curl almost 90 degrees and into the back of his own net. the mathematicians and scientists have likened the moment to Carlos' "Impossible Goal".
then around 85 minutes sparta scored again to take what can only be described as a smash and grab game.
An injury to Brad Drew has left the manager with a bit of doubt for next week.
