Ladies Score Magnificent 7 in Cup
Hibs Ladies swept aside Glasgow City Development 7-0 at HTC to book their place in third round of the Scottish Cup, writes Richard Payne.
The Hibees produced a dominant and clinical performance as Lia Tweedie scored five whilst Chelsea Cornet and Lucy Graham were also on target.
Afterwards, assistant Coach Claire Ditchburn praised the professionalism of her side, saying: “The scoreline makes it sound as though the game was easy but it wasn’t.
“City struck to their game-plan and had one or two players that caused us a problem.
“They’re a young side, with lots of potential, and they will have gained a lot from this, but we worked hard and I’m pleased with the girls’ performance.”
Hibs reshuffled their pack for the visit of City’s second string and Ditchburn admits those coming in have given the management team food for thought ahead of next weekend’s clash with Inverness City.
She commented: “The likes of Lia, Hannah [Reid] and Simone [McMahon] have come in today and they did brilliantly.
“Have such strength in depth means that Chris and I have full confidence that we can make changes and it won’t cause any disrupt to the team.
“The girls were all happy for Lia to score so many goals; she has grabbed her opportunity with both hands by taking her goals so clinically – including a stunning overhead-kick.
“Lia’s attitude epitomises the team spirit we have just now as she is always willing to roll up her sleeves and play wherever we need her to.”
