Code of Conduct for Managers, Coaches and Assistants


  • DO NOT PLAY FOOTBALL WITH CHILDREN. BE CAREFUL WITH DEMONSTRATIONS.
  • Be well prepared. Plan your coaching sessions beforehand.
  • Place the well being of Children/players above all considerations.
  • Guide and support players rather than dominate and indoctrinate so they can learn to think for themselves and be creative.
  • Encourage players to accept responsibility for their own behaviour and performance.
  • Check all equipment thoroughly to ensure its safety and appropriateness for your respective team. This includes quantity and cleanliness of equipment.
  • Check all playing kit before and after games (shirt/shorts/socks N0’s, match balls, kicking in balls also first aid kit and water bottles)
  • Arrive at the training ground (weather match or training) before everyone and be the last to leave at the end of session or match.
  • Coaches must display a high standard of behaviour and appearance.
  • Coaches must conduct themselves at all times in an ethical and professional manner and shall observe the highest standards of integrity and fair play.
  • Promote positive aspects of the sport (e.g. fair play) and never condone violations of the Laws of the Game, poor behaviour or the use of prohibited substances or techniques.
  • Learn player’s names, but try not to use nicknames.
  • Take responsibility to ensure changing rooms are left clean and tidy after training and games (this can be developed with player participation and support)
  • Treat officials and opponents with due respect, both in victory and defeat.
  • When dealing with individual players try to ensure that another adult is present.
  • Do not transport players on your own in your car; refer to club child protection policy for further clarification.
  • Managers & Coaches/Assistants should be familiar with Highfield Rangers child protection policy.
