Moray U18 5 v Highland U18 27
The U18’s maintained their winning start to the season with a terrific first half display to put 27 points past Moray.
Moray, to their credit, won the 2nd half 5-0 to leave us with a 27-5 win.
After a 3 week break for the October holidays there was a chance we could have been a bit rusty, but from the off we dominated proceedings. Playing at a high tempo we moved the ball nicely between forwards and backs.
A rehearsed line-out move put Rory Grant in for our first try 0-5, followed soon after by a Jack Sutherland interception on our own 10m line which he took all the way to the Moray line. Rory Carson slotting the conversion 0-12.
We were pinning back Moray in their half and the outcome of several forward drives was for Lyall Archer to plunge over the line converted by Rory 0-19.
Some good interplay between backs and forwards and quick hands from Callum Carson put Rory Grant in for his 2nd try of the game. Rory missed the conversion but slotted a penalty on the stroke of half-time to leave us 27 points to the good.
It was a much more even 2nd half with chances few and far between for both sides due to some strong defence. Moray did though get the try their play deserved with their pacy fullback securing their try 5-27.
There was a host of good performances from the Highland team, upfront Callum Carson excelled in the loose where once again Ben Gordon ruled the lineout.
Ross Martin at inside centre had his best outing of the season making hard yards on some good ball carries allied to strong defence. Blair Lockwood gave his opposite winger a torrid time beating him on several mazy runs.
Oscar Baird made his debut for us in the backrow and showed bags of potential.
So the 18’s make it 8 wins from 8 starts this season, a terrific achievement in any league. The focus is to now make that 9 from 9 next week against Aberdeen Grammar.
