10 in a row for U16 squad
Highland dominate Gordonstoun in the final league game of the season.
Highland finished off this seasons Caledonia North Division 1 league campaign with a solid victory away to Gordonstoun.
Injury and availability problems resulted in an untried backline starting behind a more settled forward pack but the lads quickly got to grips with the game despite the heavy conditions. Highland took the game to Gordonstoun from the start dominating both possession and territory in the first half with the forwards showing some great continuity play.
Johnny Grant was first to get on the score sheet getting on the end of a move he started with a good pick up at No.8. The ball was crashed up first by Bruce Flockhart then by Jack Dingwall before being popped back to Johnny to burst over from short range.
Bruce and Jack both picked up their own scores as Highland continued to dominate the forward battle and Hamish Hepburn found his range with the third kick of the day. Having established a good lead the players started to show a little more ambition and the ball began to see its way out to the back line. Harris Ross getting on the end of some good handling to score in the corner, with Hamish making the very difficult kick from the touchline.
Iain Crush wrapped up the first half scoring on the stroke of half time after a period of sustained pressure that had seen Gordonstoun defend well but eventually tire and Iain took a good line that could not be stopped from close range.
Half time: 0 - 29
Gordonstoun started the second period brightly and spent more time in Highland territory than they had in the whole of the first half. It was Highland however that crossed the line with some great offloading on the wing followed by strong running from Iain giving him his second try.
The forwards began to assert their dominance again and for the remainder of the match held the upper hand with John Falconer, Alisdair Macarthur and Robert Macdowell all adding to the score line.
Full time: 0 – 49
A great performance from all the players, rounding of the league campaign with a 10th consecutive win. The squad can now not finish lower than 2nd which ensures both a place in the Caledonia “Champions League” and to be one of just 16 teams entered into the National Cup.
