U15 Squad kick off the season with a home win.
Highland 31 Lochaber 10
The under 15 squad started the league campaign with a good win against a physical Lochaber outfit. Late call offs had left the visitors with only 13 travelling players, however with Orkney unable to travel for the U16 fixture both Lyall Archer and Neal Cameron sportingly agreed to pull on a Lochaber shirt and the game went ahead.
There was little between the sides in the opening exchanges, with both sets of forwards committing big numbers to the rucks and little supply to either back line.
A smart box kick from Fionnlagh Call saw the opposition turned and Bruce Flockhart showed good football skills to hack on and touch down under lots of pressure. Seamus Ross made the conversion and the season was away. Two more tries in the first half came from the forwards both as a result of good pressure deep in the opposing 22 with both Robert Macdowall and Alisdair Macarthur touching down.
Playing well for Lochaber at full back, Neal Cameron took the ball for a run from deep in his own half to score in the corner, demonstrating that he really was trying!
Half Time Highland 17 Lochaber 5
The second half saw more good Highland pressure in the loose, although the lads were on the back foot in the scum. However it was Highland who opened the second half scoring with Bruce Flockhart showing strength and determination to break free and touch down under the posts. Seamus again adding the conversion and things started to look comfortable. Lochaber however never dropped their heads and some good work in the scrum saw the ball moved quickly to the blindside and another 5 points added. The game remained very forward dominated with some big hits going in on both sides. The backs however did have the final say with Seamus Ross making an excellent break to score and then compose himself to calmly add the extra two points.
Final Score Highland 31 Lochaber 10.
