Highland Take Time To Get Into Scoring Groove
On Sunday Highland travelled to Thurso to take on their Caithness counterparts.
In breezy, cold (but dry!!) conditions Highland started the stronger with a number of forages into the Caithness half. However, it was Caithness who turned in the first score after some poor defensive work at a ruck.
Highland countered with some good pressure and Tommy M scored under the posts. Caithness scored again on the 20 minute mark before Cailean F caught the restart on his own 10 metre line and with evasive footwork raced under the Caithness posts.
Caithness added one more before half-time to lead 3 tries to 2. Highland stepped up and raised their game, Fraser M and Tommy M both scored in quick succession to put Highland in the lead. Good continuity and good individual work lead to Highland's 5th and 6th tries both scored by Fraser M. Good ball carrying by Lewis Marshall lead to the 7th scored by Alan C in the corner.
Caithness had a couple of standout players numbers 20 and 22. Highland need to work on the offload and defensive work but a satisfying display. Fraser M kicked 4 conversions. MOTM - Lewis Marshall for his ball carrying yardage and good rucking technique.
Thanks to Caithness for their hospitality and we look forward to a return match at Canal Park.
