First Match In National 2

2 months ago By Peter Martin

The 1st XV will get their season started properly this Saturday with their first game in National 2 against Preston Lodge at Canal Park.

It was a big disappointment when Glasgow Accies pulled out of the Cup encounter as Coach Dave Carson was keen to get game time, but the pre-season preparations have been going very well nonetheless.

Two players, Lewis Sinclair and Mike Gordon are on holiday, but recovering from injury is Callum Carson and Oscar Baird and Craig Findlater is available. The result is a very strong squad and this first game will really gauge how Highland are set up for this big season in National 2.

The 2nd XV are in Brin Cup action as they travel to play Moray in Elgin. This mini league also features RAF Lossiemouth and Ross Sutherland. The strength in depth of the playing pool is evident as all of the 2nd XV squad have plenty of 1st XV experience. Confidence is high that they can start the Cup campaign with a win.

The U18’s are also at home as they play Boroughmuir in the Shogun Conference at 1pm, just before the 1st XV. They youngsters had a tough game away to Ayr last Saturday so they will hopefully step up a gear at home.

Sunday Action
The rest of the junior sides are back in action with the U16’s taking on Boroughmuir at Canal Park and the U15’s playing at the Bught Park. The U14’s and U13’s travel to play at Meggetland. All of the sides will look to improve as the U14’s were the only winners last Sunday.

The Minis and Micros have their 11am training sessions.

Tomnahurich Street Roadworks
Everyone who are travelling through Inverness to get to Canal Park over the weekend should be aware of the roadworks affecting Tomnahurich Street and Glenurquhart Road. When busy there could be significant hold-ups so try and take an alternative route such as across the new bridge, along Ness Walk or even via Kinmylies.
