Good Start For U18's
The 2016/17 President's Conference started with Highland hosting Boroughmuir in excellent playing conditions.
Highland were first to put some phases of play together and on 5 minutes Cruickshank made a break with a good angled run to score under the posts, Carson converted.
Boroughmuir followed up with good possession to get to the Highland 10m line but Dinnes and Macpherson combined with good interplay to get back into the opposition 22. However, Highland gave away a penalty at the lineout and a combination of indiscipline and the boot found themselves back in their own 22, with 14 players.
From the lineout Boroughmuir caught and drove and Highland conceded a cheap try on 25 minutes. Highland stole the restart through Macpherson who made good yardage, passed to Farell who offloaded to Maclennan who slid in for try number two. Highland kept up the pressure and from a ruck inside the Boroughmuir 22 the ball passed through the hands and Maclennan scored his second which Carson converted. Halftime.
The second-half started with great expectations particularly against a heavier opposition. Highland gained a penalty which Carson converted. The match concluded with Carson chipping forward on the half-way, which was fielded by Cook and with good footwork made it deep into the 22 where he offloaded to Maclennan to score in the corner, again converted by Carson.
The scrum performed and there was improved continuity of play. Highland will need to focus on discipline at the breakdown and securing quick ball. Away to Ayr next week.
