Defeat, But There Are Signs Of Improvement.

Remarkably, despite the overnight conditions the game went ahead in what can only be described as a weather window.

The pitch held up well and the sun came out! Highland had a few key players missing but managed to put a squad of 17 together for the match. After last week’s heavy defeat the objective was to win or at least be competitive.

In the early exchanges Highland got sucked in at the breakdown and the Boroughmuir 10 and wingers simply outpaced Highland out wide, compounded by some poor tackling, and scored heavily in the first half. Boroughmuir lead 29-0 at the break. Highland's ball retention for the first three to four phases were much improved on last week and once again great cover defence by Deakin (1) and Miller (15).

Highland continued to compete at the breakdown and Bain (3) found himself in space on the wing until forced out for a lineout on Boroughmuir’s 22m. However there was no warm glow to the end result for Highland and Boroughmuir ran in two tries in the second half to end the game 39-0.

Highland need to work on the offload and have the focus to retain possession beyond set play and the initial phases. Deakin, Miller and Urquhart (12) had very good games but man of the match goes to Ball (8) who tackled superbly and had a tremendous work rate. Well done to the all the lads.
