With prize money increasing as clubs progress through the early rounds of the country’s most famous cup competition, the financial rewards provide a clear incentive for the Highworth manager.

Fisher’s men, who kicked off their Hellenic League Premier Division campaign with back-to-back victories over Reading Town and Brimscombe & Thrupp, travel to Western League Bridport in the extra preliminary round next weekend and the Worthians chief has money on his mind.

“If anyone says that they’re playing for the magic of the cup or anything like that, they’re talking rubbish,” said Fisher, whose side will secure £1,500 if they progress past Bridport.

“It is good to have a nice day out and play different sides but if there wasn’t any money involved, then none of the sides in the Hellenic League or the Western League would play in the competition.

“If you get through three or four rounds, that’s your cup final and you’ve sorted yourselves out financially for the whole season - you only have to look at Shortwood (United) who went a long way and ended up getting more than £20,000. (Not forgetting the BT TV money for the Port Vale game!)

“We have got a couple of injuries, which is always the way, but we’ll go down there confident. We’ve won two out of two and they’ve lost two out of two.

“Western League sides are always difficult to play against but we’ll be up for it.”

Meanwhile, Shrivenham are also in FA Cup action this weekend, with Sam Collier’s side making the trip to league rivals Reading Town.

Matt Bennett scored twice as Shrivvy beat Oxford City Nomads 2-1 last weekend but a last-gasp spot-kick saw Collier’s men slip to a 2-1 loss at Kidlington on Wednesday night.
