Highworth assistant salutes positive start

ASSISTANT manager Kevin Moloney thinks that Highworth Town should be more than satisfied to the start of their latest Hellenic League Premier Division offensive.

The Worthians made it four wins out of five on Saturday as they claimed a comfortable 2-0 victory over Bracknell Town at the Elms, with top-scorer TJ Bohane netting either side of half-time to take his tally for the season to six goals.

Callum Parsons came close to extending the margin of victory as he struck the woodwork and Moloney, who has taken charge of Highworth’s last few games whilst boss John Fisher is away on holiday, thinks that the early-season signs are good for his men.

“Me and John said at the start of the season that we wanted to give the league a real good go this year. We’ve got a good squad together and we should be good enough for that,” said Moloney.

“It’s been a good start. We’ve only lost the one game at Oxford (City Nomads) and we’ve won the other four.

“We got knocked out of the FA Cup last week and that was disappointing because Blackfield & Langley caught us on a bad day – they were a really good side though.

“It’s the league form that’s the important thing but we’re not going to get too ahead of ourselves.

“The clean sheet was the pleasing thing on Saturday and it was a good all-round performance.

“The only worry was that TJ had to come off with a knock but hopefully he’ll be alright for Tuesday (away to Abingdon United).”

In Division One, Purton moved up to third in the table after a 2-0 victory at Clanfield.

Ben Carter and Kenny Hawkins got the goals for Justin Miller’s men, who are now level on points with second-placed Tuffley Rovers and three behind league leaders Longlevens.
