HELLENIC LEAGUE: 'We have nothing to lose' says McNally

By Matthew Edwards, Sports reporter

SHRIVENHAM caretaker manager Michael McNally has said his side have nothing to lose as they prepare for a local derby with Highworth Town.

The Barrington Park side sit just a place off the foot of the Hellenic Premier Division table, whereas their fierce rivals have enjoyed a more successful campaign having made it to the semi-finals of the FA Vase and go into the clash on the back of a 5-0 win over Holyport.

McNally is also hindered by the fact that he will be without Sam Packer, Adam Corcoran and goalkeeper Keiron Shail but hopes his young side can learn from the experience and give a good account of themselves.

“It is the first local derby for a lot of them but there is no pressure,” he said.

“We have got a lot of young lads and they have nothing to lose.

“Highworth, with the cup run they have been on and the form they have, should be beating us quite comfortably but in local derbies form counts for nothing.

“We’ll give them the respect before the game but when the whistle goes we will get about them and see how it goes.

“We have got a few players away, being bank holiday we are three or four down but hopefully the reserve lads will step up to the mark and enjoy themselves.

“We trained in the week and had a good session and hopefully that has blown a few cobwebs away and we will be ok.

“Hopefully my lads will go out there and conduct themselves in the right way and put in a performance and that is all the club want.”

McNally remains as caretaker boss of Shrivvy but is hoping to have his future at the club made clearer in the next month.

“The club have spoken to me behind closed doors and they want me to take it on, but I need to sit down properly with them and see what they want for next year,” he added.

“Hopefully we’ll sort it out in the next two or three weeks.”
