The Brevard Old Red Eye came out hard and fast putting the Gators under pressure early.

Brevard looked a little bigger to me than HH. They certainly started off playing faster plus their game plan was crystal clear from the outset and they stuck to it- get the ball to the wing, where they felt like they outmatched us. They did have some success early, Hilton Head played the ball Brevard continually tried to kick for their wings to run under poorly early on, but in the end our counter-attacks were responsible for large gains, which ultimately lead to all of Hilton Head's points.

Here's the scoring as I recall, time is a wild guess.
5-0 HH rolling maul from a lineout, score in the right corner. Conv. failed. (18 min.)
5-5 Brevard from a ruck 15 yds. out, kicks to the right wing, HH plays it poorly, but a nice take by the Red Eye wing. Conv. failed. 5-5 (28 min.)
10-5 Pressure from the kick off keeps Brevard pinned deep. They kick to the wing and Peter McNamara gathers it up, puts a sweet grubber behind the defense and touches down inches from the back line. (32 min.)
13-5 Carnes penalty kick from 15 yds, center of posts. (40 min.)
-halftime-
13-8 Brevard penalty (50 min.)

At this point Brevard is putting us under pressure effectively although the heavy hits the Gators have been laying on their visitors are starting to tell. We've just given up a penalty and they have us pinned us down deep for a long-ish run of play. THIS is the critical point of the match, a Brevard try will tie it, the conversion puts them ahead and at this point the momentum and the flow of the game favor Brevard.

20-8 From a ruck at the 22, our #9 is in the ruck, Carnes takes the ball from the back of the ruck and lays a low kick at the feet of their left wing with McNamara pressuring. the ball bounces high, the wing is expecting it low and Peter makes the play and is off for a 60 yard try under the posts. (55 min.)

25-8 Josh Kirby, in for Goodrich at SH, takes a gap at the base of the ruck, makes a long run through traffic which leads to a ruck at the line. Matt DiMuzio takes it over for the try. another conv. missed. (72 min.)

It seemed to me that as the game started Brevard was going to be the better team. They certainly played faster and they had a clear game plan- get the ball to their blazing fast wings with space to run. In the end, we wore them down. They were totally spent. The last 20 minutes were all ours. Fun game to watch and good hard rugby from both sides. And clean. I've never played in a game where somebody didn't think he'd been cheaped but except for a couple of unintentional high tackles and a couple of late-ish hits it was squeaky clean. No sin bin not even the threat of a yellow card. Good discipline from both teams.

On to Naples where it looks like Hilton Head will play Charlotte's D3 side.
