In my opinion, the game was lost within an hour of the win yesterday due to a lack of team leadership. Sorry if the truth hurts. The decision to eat at a bar downtown (that as it turned out didn't even serve food) set the tone. No expectations were laid out for the evening, Sunday morning or the game and after an hour of wandering around looking for a place to eat, the team split up with some not returning to the hotel until the wee hours of this morning. They straggled from the hotel to the field and 30 minutes before game time some players were still in shorts and flip flops. The attitude of the players before the game was 180 degrees from Saturday. Team selections didn't help as the Gators gave up 18 soft points in the 1st half and didn't threaten the Pensacola line.
In the second half, the best available players were on the field and focus returned somewhat as Hilton Head scored a try and 2 penalties to 3 penalties for Pensacola. The Gators played much better, but for me the lack of focus, that started last night and lasted through the 1st half, pretty much killed any appreciative thoughts that might have made me give a more glowing report of the teams improved performance to finish up the game.
We'll be in Columbia for the next round, but as a lower seed than if the team had won. Hopefully they've learned both from the strong performance of Pensacola and from their own weak one. If you want to win from here on out, you've got to be all in.
