MELTON MOWBRAY RFC V HINCKLEY RFC U14’S MATCH REPORT 22.04.2012

Hinckley travelled to Melton to meet a powerful well drilled home side.

Melton kicked off, the ball gathered by an eager looking Hinckley pack that shifted it around with quality handling skills pushing Melton back into their own half. The ball momentarily lost to Melton before Bradbury ripped the ball back to break away clear looking at a certain try but for a controversial offside decision. Hinckley picking up where they left off hounding the home side defence Rowe coming very close to going over but denied. Melton cleared with a lofted ball to the halfway line, Hinckley feeding the ball out to Roberts who quickly snaked his way through the Melton defence to plant the ball in the corner for Hinckley’s first points Baker just wide of the posts for the conversion. Good surging runs by Bradbury and Baker at the restart but Melton taking the ball back into the Hinckley half forcing Hinckley to defend their try line. A solid tackle by James followed by Melton penalised for offside got the ball clear for Hinckley.

Hinckley got the second half underway and battled deep in Melton’s territory Melton managing a scrambled clearance a good chase by Melton forcing Tuffin to clear. Hinckley knocking on at the halfway line saw Melton with the ball out of the scrum, White quick to pounce ripped the ball from the failing hands of the Melton scrumhalf to breakaway but Melton lucky as Hinckley knock on. Melton took play up a notch with several chances at scoring before breaking through the backline for a try in the corner the conversion missed keeping things level. Hinckley restarted only for the Melton winger to breakaway at speed toward the Hinckley try line Jackson gave chase and shut him down. The ball shipped out to White and a combination of speed and good handling skills with Roberts saw the duo at Melton’s twenty two. A clever chip over Melton’s backline saw the ball bobble over the try line for a chasing Bradbury to dive on for Hinckley’s try, Rowe never one to blow his own coranglais slotted the ball neatly between the posts for the conversion.

Melton came back at Hinckley at the restart Hinckley keeping them at bay for several attacks but finally breaking to let Melton through to go over in the corner a good conversion from a tricky position seen the home side nudge ahead on the scoreboard. Another converted try for Melton from a breakaway at the restart made things difficult for Hinckley as the clock was ticking towards the final whistle a Penalty conversion for Melton sealed Hinckley’s fate in the final moments.
