U14s - Report
Hinckley U14 V Coalville
This good spirited friendly was played in 3 thirds and Coalville got off to a good start retaining possession expertly for the first 10 mins, with Hinckley giving away many penalties.
The next section of the game was quite frustrating to watch as both sides continually gave away penalties although Hinckley managed to come out on top thanks to a superior attacking force. Ward got a well-deserved try after much pressure from the home side 17-5. Coalville’s kicking strategy did not pay off as each time Hinckley ran the ball back at them at speed – Sexton got his name on the score board with an excellent try under the posts after shrugging off 4 tacklers, Steele’s conversion brought the tally to 24-5. More powerful charges ensued from Allen & Jackson but it was Lunn who managed to score in the corner to keep the scoreboard ticking over. 29-5. Hinckley won a scrum in Coalville’s 22 and Ames picked up from the base of the scrum and with explosive pace, ploughed through the defence to score 34-5.
The final section was Coalville’s best spell in terms of scoring but Hinckley were not about to sit back and let the opposition run at them. Roberts got his hands on the ball for the first time and scorched down the wing to get his first try 39-5. Coalville fought back hard and play was evenly matched for a while and when Padbury was sin binned they had a one man advantage which they pressed home with their second try 39-10. Hinckley’s short line out move with long throw to Collings nearly paid off but he was stopped 5 meters from the line. Coalville made best use of their winger as he ran down the length of the field to score a brilliant individual try 39-15
The fresh legs that Hinckley had brought on were beginning to tell as Hinckley got 3 more tries one from Roberts after a jinking run (converted by James), one from Collings following a blistering run from Kingdon combined with a sublime offload and the final try from Roberts again after Sexton set him up. Final score 56-15
