Hinckley's newcomers took centre stage on Saturday with 6 of the 7 tries coming from player's who have joined the club over the summer.
, formerly of Loughborough and Blaine Howe
, who has signed from Aylestone St. James scored twice, while Kris McFredies and Mitch Culpin
who has switched from South Leicester also got on the score sheet, while there was also a try for Steve Morfill
The 20 players Hinckley took over to Kettering all got good run outs in their first outing of the season, against a side who performed well in Midlands 1 last season, who were using the fixture as an opportunity to get their whole squad on the field, with between 35 and 40 players being used by the opposition.
The game, split into 4 quarters was disjointed at times but as it went on Hinckley began to put their game together showing good shape and attacking prowess at times, with the second half being much improved on the first.
Hinckley led from 5 minutes in when Morfill scored from close range having been set up by Ryan Oakes
, and in the second quarter Howe scored on the right hand side, Oakes with one of the conversions. In between Kettering scored themselves to leave the half time score at 12 - 7.
The third quarter was when Hinckley really clicked into gear. Firstly Smith scored his first after the visitors attacked from their own half, and then soon after a break by Oakes gave Culpin a run in from 30 metres. McFedries then got his score picking up a loose ball at the side of the scrum and ghosting around his opposite number, before Smith set up Howe for his second. In this period Kettering scored once themselves down the left hand side.
The final quarter turned into more of a Barbarians style game with the ball being thrown everywhere, however it did give Hinckley one score, with Smith getting his second.
In all, a very pleasing first run out for Hinckley, against one of the better sides from the level below. Unfortunately the fixture this weekend was been cancelled, meaning there is just one more game before the season begins, away to National 2 side Bromsgrove on the 25th August.
