Hinckley U14's v Derby

A great start to the new season

On a blistering hot day the U14's started the 2012/13 campaign with a win, however Derby put in a good shift and made a game of it despite the flattering scoreline.
Hinckley got off to a good start, Bailis going on a battering run. The forwards recycled loose ball and a gap opened and Bailis went into score, Brogden converting,7-0. The restart saw a carbon copy move and Bailis score again, Brogden converting, 14-0. From the restart the ball fell to Taylor and he shot off on a jigging run bowling over the opposition as he went, enventually crossing the line to score, 17-0. As last season the scrummaging of the pack was awesome and today saw more of the same, forward power setting up the backs from every srum. Despite pressure from Derby who were putting in some big tackles, Hinckley scored a flurrey of tries going in to half time, Brogden, Wykes and Madden making it 32-0 at the whistle.
The second half saw Hinckley make several personnel changes and it took them a while to gel, unfortunately Derby took advantage and nipped into score twice making it 32-14. The U14's reacted well and defended attack after attack from Derby and turned defence into attack and good work from Ridgeway saw Fletcher go into score, 37-14. Derby then started to wilt in the heat and Brogden and Taylor nipped into score to make it 53-14 at the final whistle. A good test for the first game of the season, hopefully better things to come.

A belated farewell to a U14 player who has been a key member of the squad for many years, Lewis Miller, who has taken up a golden opportunity and cannot play for us anymore. Good luck and I am sure we will see him in an England rugby shirt in the near future (or look for Welsh grand parents if he wants to win anything:)!!) We also said goodbye to Callum Rymell and Miles Sketchley who are having a rest from Rugby this year. We also wish a speedy recovery to louis Kershaw from his 2 broken arms!
