Hawks began the game well but failed to take their early chances and were punished by 2 breakaway goals in 4 minutes with Hawks failing to clear the ball on both occasions. Both goals were taken very well by the Potton players (0-2). With only a quarter of the game gone there was still plenty of time to turn the game around. Having been wasteful early on with their passing Hawks shortened the game up and passed the ball around well, making use of the whole pitch. The break came 3 minutes before half time with George striking a hard low shot into the corner of the goal with an assist from Sahosh (1-2).
Hawks made a couple of changes at half time with Matthew coming on for Jordan and Adam for Eliot. Hawks came out determined in the 2nd half but had to be wary of Potton’s attack which was causing a few problems at times. Hawks drew level on 66 minutes. Some neat passing down the left with Billy C and Billy M released Liam who looked up and saw Tyler running into the penalty area and his pass was neatly dispatched into the goal (2-2). Hawks continued to search for the winner but were becoming desperate and shooting from all angles. Into injury time and Tyler released Liam this time on the right and his low cross was met perfectly by Adam to side foot into the goal. (3-2). There was still time for a few more minutes of injury time but the final whislte finally came.
Potton could feel unlucky as they defended for almost all the 2nd half and hit the crossbar with one of their few forays into the Hitchin half but Hawks probably just deserved it.
Final Score: Hitchin Hawks 3 Potton Colts 2
