FIRST WIN UNDER BELT

Holbeach United were determined to put right the poor performances of the past two weeks and started the game very brightly. A change in formation seemed to have added a much needed presence in attack with the ever impressive Taylor Beveridge linking well with Daniel Bergin to create the first opportunity of the game after just 5 minutes when a neat give and go opened up the Glinton defence only for Bergin to fire just wide from close range. Alex Finch making his first start of the season was very much in the wars as he seemed to be singled out by the glinton team for some rough treatment, after powering through a host of tough challenges finch slid the ball through for Beveridge to cut inside the Glinton center back and curled delicious shot which struck the upright and was hastily cleared by the home team. By now Holbeach were dominating the game and good work down the Holbeach right gave Luke Wilson a great chance to drill a low cross in which was half cleared, the ball fell nicely on the edge of the penalty area to Ryan Howard who drilled a powerful shot to give Holbeach a much deserved lead.

Time after time holbeach ceated chances and eventually Daniel Bergin raced clear of the Glinton defence to sot home the Holbeach second and give the team some breathing space for the first time this season. This as it turns out was the chance Glinton waited for and for 10 minutes they created a host of chances and a superb corner was delivered into the Holbeach area which wasnt dealt with and the ball found its way past Dan Greenacre, this created a few tense minute until the referee blew for half time.

Paul Handford came on for the injured Alex Finch and was straight into the action with some tough tackling which was lacking at the end of the first half, the pattern of play changed back in to Holbeach's favor and they again took control with some nice neat passing and as notably Taylor Beveridge was now the spear of the Holbeach push for a third goal. Chance after chance was created and missed and as the game went on the more nervy the Holbeach managers became, then a cross from Beveridge was half cleared by the home defence only to find Paul Handford 25 yards out, he controlled the ball and hammered the goal of his life into the top corner of the net..... the relief within the Holbeach team could be seen with their celebrations. It was at this point Paul Handford asked to be substituted the feeling in the dressing room afterwards was that he was in shock as the goal.

That goal seemed to kill any drive the home team had and Holbeach now settled into a keep ball exercise and the game drifted to a finish and finally Holbeach had their first win of the season.
