"A" TEAM WIN AWAY

The Tigers arrived at Wittering and the games had already started as a horrendous smell greeted the team as they entered their changing room, soon enough the Tigers were out and warming up in the cold crisp air.

Wittering Reserves who are struggling for form in division 4 soon settled into a good passing routine and both Scott Burrell and Gary Booth struggled with the physicality of the Wittering front pair, although it was the Tigers who created the first opportunity and a superb save by the home keeper kept the scores level. It was against the run of play and some awful defending by the usually impressive Luke Wilson let in the Wittering winger to cross and the Wittering striker obliged to power in a header for 1 nil……

Holbeach were pole axed and needed a reaction, within minutes a superb through ball allowed Daniel Bergin to race towards the Wittering area and with the advancing keeper Bergin fired an early shot which the keeper got his hand to 20 yards out of goal, it had to be a red card but the referee only awarded a free kick and no further punishment, enraging the Tigers. James Kingston blasted the free kick high over the bar and Wittering had escaped!! It was only short-lived as Holbeach soon created another sweeping move with Bergin and Robert Lewsley linking well on the edge of the area, the ball falling to Lewsley’s feet and he slammed the ball home and the Tigers were deservingly level. Holbeach were now pressing and pressing but some fine saves by the home keeper kept the score level as the referee blew for half time.

The second half started at a ferocious pace and Holbeach again created several chances before a Barcelona style link up between Taylor Beveridge, who flicked the ball with the outside of his boot which put Luke Wilson through who managed to fire a shot which was again saved by the keeper, only this time Daniel Bergin was on hand to smash the ball into the roof of the net and the Tigers had the lead they deserved.

Taylor Beveridge was now showing the form which has attracted local scouts from teams higher in the PDFL and it was a delicious free kick that he pin point crossed for Daniel Bergin to meet the ball with a diving header which crashed against the cross bar and back down into the keepers hands. At this point the home linesman was flagging for something he had seen in the area. After a short discussion the referee signalled a goal much to the surprise of the 22 players and both management teams. The Tigers now lead 3-2!!

A quick response from Wittering brought the scores closer after a wild shot caught the Dan Greenacre out in the Holbeach goal, the score was 3-2 to the Tigers.

The game now entered a scrappy period and that sums up the next goal scored by Taylor Beveridge who somehow found the net with an effort which flicked his shin a goal is a goal. At least this one went into the goal. There followed some silly booking’s for Holbeach with Daniel Bergin, Gary Booth, Luke Wilson and Taylor Beveridge all seeing yellow for minor infringements.

Wittering were now starting to tire and the Holbeach team were showing their teeth now and looking to kill the game off and some great play by the impressive Daniel Bergin and Taylor Beveridge allowed Taylor the chance to slam home his second and Holbeache’s fifth goal of the game.

As the now entered the final 10 minutes and super sub Jonathan Clark showing some good touches and link up play, the ball ended up in the Wittering net for his 3rd goal in 3 games from the bench and the Tigers had hit the home team for 6…..

The game drifted to a close and on a bitterly cold afternoon in November the Tigers had yet again beaten higher league opposition in their search for silverware.
