TIGERS WIN ON PENALTIES

Lincolnshire County Senior Cup
Quarter Finals
Holbeach United v Deeping Rangers

Holbeach edged into the final four of the competition on penalties after a hard-fought 90 minutes.

It was a game of very few chances – in fact there was no real threat to either keeper until the 60th minute, when Drury made a diving save – his second and final save of the 90 minutes came when the ball was blasted straight at him.

Both teams closed each other down well and it was impossible for either side to play impressive football, but both teams dug in hard, made tough tackles and kept the opposition out.

Deeping went down to 10 men in the second half, following a second yellow for an horrendous challenge. But, to be fair to the visitors, the Tigers were never really able to make the extra man count
What Holbeach did do well was defend strongly and build up play from the midfield – but Deeping were also strong in defence.

Deeping missed their first penalty and Leckie made no mistake in response. Deeping made it one all, before Warfield restored the lead.

Deeping scored again, despite Drury getting a hand to the ball, before the Holbeach stopper became scorer with the Tiger’s third penalty.

Deeping then missed their fourth, before Smith put Holbeach through 4-2.
