Match Report - Barrow Town 2-1 Holbrook Sports - 25/11/17 EMCL

A small following of Brookie fans left Leicestershire disappointed after first-half promise.

Straight from the kickoff, neat football from Barrow saw the Brookies on the defence with a last-ditch tackle and then a clearance off the line from the subsequent corner.

The first half never settled down. Brookies were having the better of the play, but both sides having great chances to score.

Midway through the half and the end to end football continued. the Brookies miss a good opportunity to score and then Barrow break quick and unfortunately crash a shot against the post. Almost immediately the Brookies are again on the attack and hit the bar from a Scott Staniland header.

Holbrook Sports took the lead after 28 minutes, Sam Griffiths swung in a freekick and Stuart Baker found the bottom corner with a bullet header.

A couple of more chances followed with the best after 42 minutes when Ashley Hayes was put through from a backpass but the keeper came out quick to save. The Brookies went in deservedly in front but concerned with lots of chances for both sides

Barrow came out a different side and were applying all the pressure.

After 64 minutes they got a deserved equaliser. Evan Cawley lost the ball on the right allowing Barrow to advance into the box and the low cross was tucked away at the back post by former Brookie Ndo Chilaka from close range 1-1.

Barrow were now definitely the better side and took the lead after 77 minutes. A Jack Coulson back pass looked to clear up the danger but it somehow deceived Steve Smith in goal before trickling agonisingly into the corner 2-1.

2 minutes later Steve Smith was called into action and made amends with a super save from a Ndo Chilaka header.

82m Holbrook Sports had a rare second chance but a double save denies Brookies an equaliser. That was the last of Holbrook chances and it could have been worse but when Barrow had a potential third goal disallowed.

Ft Barrow Town 2-1 Holbrook Sports

Barrow thoroughly deserved the victory for their second-half performance, however, Brookies will be disappointed with a lacklustre performance. 3 straight league defeats have seen the Brookies tumble from the top, down to 8th place. They will be looking forward to putting things right next Saturday against a Holwell Sports whose form has picked up lately with 3 wins of out 4.
