Holland played host to the University Of Essex FC in what was sure to be a tough encounter, University where on a 12 game unbeaten run.
The game Started pretty evenly with both sides looking to get on the front foot, The students where playing their nice brand of football keeping possession well but the Holland defensive line were equal to the task, as the half wore on Holland started to get to grips with there quick footed opponents and started to take charge, on 25 minutes Holland took the lead through Aaron Keaney, Aaron got on to a diagonal ball played behind the fullback and coolly fired home in off the upright, 1-0. Holland keep pressing but the Uni boys defend well ! With 4 minutes left in the half the referee awards Holland a free-kick inside the penalty area because the Uni keeper hold's on to the ball for to long trying to stem the tide of Holland's attacks, from the resultant free-kick Aaron Keaney fires in his 2nd goal ! his shot takes a slight defection but powers its way into the back of the Uni net 2.0 !
Half Time.
Holland trot out for the 2nd half and realize that Uni are down to 10 men ! the keeper being sent off during the interval !!! presumably for having a few words with the Ref ?, When you play against Ten men it can go 2 ways, for Holland it seemed to backfire! with the Students with a point to prove coming out strongly, the 10 men playing the ball around very well, they do get a slice of luck when Holland concede an own goal but its no more than the Uni boys deserve, we seem to forget the hard work and commitment levels that we showed in the 1st period, but the Holland defense are holding firm, Uni keep pressing but with 4 minutes to go Holland hit them down the right flank, Ali Mcinnes making great ground and cutting the the ball back for the returning Blake Panrucker to fire home into the corner of the Uni net 3-1 job done.
In truth a game of differing halves, Holland very good in the 1st but somewhat lackluster in the 2nd, maybe thinking 10 men would be easy to beat !! a harsh lesson was nearly learnt ! but 3-1 is a fine result.
