Davies adds late conversion to give Chapel a draw on the road

After a big win to 2nd in the league new brighton, it was our turn to travel to 3rd in the league Capenhurst. Capenhurst had shipped very few points at home so Chapel knew it would be a tough challenge.

Chapel started the brighter of the two sides with some good forward pressure. Conor Gavin and Jim Hamilton were carrying well. Pressure soon told and a penalty under the posts allowed Andy Davies to get the score board moving. Andy fyffe was starting to dictate play by using a mixture of forward and back options. A well worked lineout ended up in the fly half Fyfe's hands, a strong switch line from centre Jim Moss unlocked the Capenhurst defence and he powered through under the posts. Davies added the extras to make it 10-0. The boys in blue and gold had been in total control of the first 20, however, after this score the tide changed and Capenhurst took advantage of chapels lack of concentration. Their pack starved holmes chapel of pressure, some big hits from Mike Lightfoot and mark macca kept the home side at bay. The pressure eventually told and the Capenhurst pack powered over from a scrum. Extras added 7-10. The pressure Capenhurst were applying did not let off and they came back instantly with 2 back to back tries from rolling mauls off lineouts. One converted to make it 19-10 to the home side.

Rob Moore entered the field to replace Chapel prop will Mitchell. Coach Jonathan Stanway had some tactical words for the boys.

The start of this half was much more even with both teams enjoying periods of possession. Chapel were starting to edge the game and had backed themselves ball in hand. A clever idea from flanker Joe Foulkes allowed Chapel to alleviate the pressure that Capenhurst were exerting on the lineout. A period of multiple phases lead to big number 8 conor Gavin powering over from 10 yards out. Not converted. The boys in blue and gold maintained their pressure and only for some good last ditch defence were denied further scores. A penalty in the HC 22 was excellently slotted by the Capenhurst kicker to make it 22-15. Time was running out with only 5 minutes left of the game. Dan Martin and Mike Lightfoot were carrying well in the midfield and thing in defenders. This allowed a break to be made by Chapel skipper dom moss who offloaded neatly to supporting flanker Tom Chambers who was able to race in underneath the posts unopposed. Davies slotted the conversion to make the game 22 all. The game ended all square and a draw was probably a fair result.

We would like to thank Capenhurst for a tough game played in really good spirits. MoM was shared between Jim Hamilton and Tom Chambers who both had great games.
