Free flowing rugby gives Chapel the victory, results elsewhere means promotion is sealed!

With only two games of the season left, Holmes Chapel RUFC 1st XV entertained Dukinfield for their last home game. Having just pipped the visitors away earlier in the season, Chapel knew they'd have to be on top of their game.

Unfortunately Dukinfield only had 14 players to start with but Joe Maddock had stepped in to play for the opposition, Chapel however started well and were holding their own against the strong forward pack from the visitors. It wasn't long before a well worked rolling maul gave Dave Steer the chance to crash over from short range, Andy Davies duly adding the extras.

Dukinfield were battle hard but an injury to another player made things more difficult, Chapel knowing that they needed to win the last two games of the season to ensure promotion were not going to let the opportunity go and began playing some high quality rugby with both the backs and the forward linking well and causing problems. Andy Fyffe was controlling the game well from number 10, whilst Ollie Lawrence was putting in the big defence and Joe Baskerville's pace was keeping the Dukinfield defence busy.

It was only a matter of time before the tries began to flow, Captain Dom Moss was at the centre of most thing but it was Steer who was again over the line to increase the lead. More tries followed, Ali Lightfoot grabbing himself a brace and Chapel were in front 35-0 at the break.

More injuries for Dukinfield made their task even more of an uphill one, but they were making Chapel work for everything and putting in some fine tackles to thwart the Chapel attack. They were also showing some good attacking play and came close to getting on the score line on several occasions, but Chapel continued to pass the ball wide at will and the link up play was as good as it's been all season, more tries came, jack Baskerville, Joe Faulkes and Jim Moss all getting themselves on the score sheet. The score line at the end was 78-0.

Results elsewhere had gone Holmes Chapel's way with New Brighton losing at Wilmslow, meaning Chapel have gained promotion, assuming they at least turn up for their last game.

Holmes Chapel would like to thank Dukinfield for a game played in excellent spirit. Man of the match was given to Captain Dom Moss and Holmes Chapel RUFC would like to thank all their sponsors for their continued support.

The 2nd XV won their match when Old Bedians unfortunately had to call the game due to insufficient numbers, that W made it four on the trot and puts the second into 3rd position in the league, promotion is not possible but 3rd place would be an extremely credible position.
